Contribution to the community

The Green Mark Herbs farm is located in an exceptionally beautiful corner of the world, 250 km south of Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa.
We are at the edge of the town of Awassa (Hawassa), which sits astride beautiful Lake Awassa.  Awassa town, a medium-sized town with a population of 170,000, has been thoughtfully planned, nestled by beautiful Lake Awassa and adjacent comfortable resort lodgings.
Our sophisticated drip irrigation systems make the most of rainfall, filtered groundwater, natural fertilizers, and other techniques in the most environmentally-friendly way possible.
We are fully aware of our social responsibilities and have initiated a number of community projects for the benefit of local inhabitants, for example:
Our management team obtained a container of 20,000 English-language books for distribution to the local Awassa public schools and libraries.  The farm participated in the logistics and temporary storage of the books.
Our farm is working with the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Resources - Wondo Genet Agricultural Research Center  to study the growing methods of industrial agricultural plants grown on scrub land which naturally supports these plants, thus creating a new sustainable resource for the country, and which absolutely does not compete with food production.
We have met with organizations in nearby countries even poorer than Ethiopia, for which we are developing information-sharing agribusiness concepts.
We maintain good relationships with Hawassa University , located near the farm.  Many of our agronomists graduated from this university.
Moreover, we have collaborated with Hawassa University to establish a science/technology/engineering/mathematics (STEM) center. The HU-STEM-Center provides sophisticated hands-on STEM enrichment, for primary and secondary school students in the Hawasa area. See www.StemPower.org then click “Initiatives”.
